If you are just starting out, then look for an electric acoustic guitar package that includes DVDs and instructions. There is no need to spend hundreds of dollars, as beginner kits can be found starting around $120 if you find a good deal. However, be aware that many of these packages can cost you a lot more!
You may think that buying a more expensive one may be cheaper in the long run, and that is a common argument. However, chances are, once you have reached a certain standard, you’ll also have a particular guitar you want anyway! There will always be someone looking to buy second-hand.
So, hedge your bets, you may become the next Eric Clapton, but you may just get bored and not want to commit to the hours of practice you will need. Playing the guitar to a good standard does not come easily, you will have to work at it!

Of the primary types, you will also find that the Renaissance guitar has nylon or gut strings, the Baroque will be gut stringed and smaller, the Flamenco will be light and small and include a tap plate. Steel stringed guitars may be known as a folk, western, country guitar and have a louder sound.
A twelve stringed guitar will produce more harmonious sounds, a resonator guitar as the name suggests, includes metal cone resonators. The arch top guitar has a distinctive arched top, the battente guitar is popular in Italy, the lap steel guitar will have the strings raised at the nut and bridge ends. There are many other types of such as the Lyre, acoustic bass guitar, Russian guitar, Harp guitar and the Banjo guitar.
Of course it is possible to get many types of guitar, acoustic electric, 12 strings, 7 strings (the Russian model) and those with basic construction differences. The choice is endless!
